How To Make Rolled Beeswax Candles

Rolled beeswax candles are such a great project to take on. They're easy to make, they're fun to do, and the end result is luminous!

To start the project, you will need:

  • Beeswax sheets
  • Candle wicks

We sell a kit (that comes in two sizes) in our online store here: Stakich Candle Making Beeswax Kit

Depending on the size of your desired candle, you can cut the sheets to fit. Here are a few of my favorite sizes that work well with the sheets we sell:

  • Tall candle: 15" x 8.5" sheet
  • Regular candle: 7.5" x 8.5" sheet
  • Short candle: 5" x 8.5" sheet

Directions:

Step 1: Decide which side of your cut sheet you’d like to be the candle’s height, then measure and cut a length of candle wick about 1/2″ longer than the length of that side.

Step 2: Lay the wick along the length of the beeswax sheet, all the way at the edge, with the bottom of the wick lined up with the bottom of the sheet. Using your fingers, gently press the wick into the beeswax all along its length.

Step 3: Fold the end of the beeswax sheet over the wick, tucking the sheet around the wick tightly.

Step 4: Now carefully and evenly roll the bottom of the wax up going very slowly to prevent the beeswax sheet from cracking or breaking. The beeswax sheet is easy to roll, so you won’t need to exert much force here. If you want the candle to be thicker, you can add another sheet where the first one ends and continue until you're satisfied with the candle's diameter.

Step 5: When the sheet is completely rolled around the wick, press the outside edge into the candle. The softness of the beeswax and the warmth of your fingers will stick it to the candle with a barely noticeable seam.

Step 6: Trim any unevenness at the top and bottom of the candle (or simply press uneven parts down into the candle), and trim the top wick to about 1/4″. Your candle is ready to be lit!

Propolis is a resinous mixture produced by honey bees when they collect sap from trees and mix it with beeswax and enzymes. The result: nature’s own protective compound, used by bees to seal their hive and guard against bacteria, fungi, and weather. Because of its rich composition of polyphenols, flavonoids, and antimicrobial compounds, propolis is now valued as a “bee-made immunity booster” and “ wellness ally.” PMC+2PMC+2
