Why Spirulina Is a Superfood

It's no secret that we're a huge fan of Superfoods and supplements, and we love sharing our favorite ones with our friends, family and customers. One of my personal favorites is our Spirulina Powder because of its nutrient-dense composition. Whether you add it into your breakfast or in your afternoon pick-me-up, I hope this list makes it easy for you to remember why you should add into your smoothies every day! Make sure to check out a couple of our Spirulina Smoothie Recipes here.

What is Spirulina?

Spirulina is a natural algae that is rich in Chlorophyll. With its powerful properties, it supports total body and brain health, working away to boost your immune system and alkalize the body.

Our Spirulina is grown in freshwater ponds away from agricultural and industrial pollutants, where sunlight is abundant and the air is clean. It has been thoroughly cleaned and filtered, and then dried at low temperatures, to assure the nutritional value has been preserved.

Spirulina Composition

Protein: Spirulina is 62% protein and it contains all of the essential amino acids, or building blocks of protein. There are few non-animal sources that provide so much protein, making Spirulina great for vegetarians and vegans, especially when paired with Bee Pollen (which is also high in protein).

Omega Fatty Acids: Spirulina contains high amounts of both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, both of which are needed for a complete and healthy diet. Consuming adequate amounts of these fats has shown to lower your risk for heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, and even depression.

Vitamin A: Spirulina is particularly high in vitamin A in the form of beta carotene. This vitamin is an important nutrient for the functioning of your eyes, healthy skin and bones.

Vitamin B Complex: Spirulina contains all 8 of the B vitamins, or the entire vitamin B complex. B vitamins play an important role in converting food into fuel, and provide us with energy throughout the day.

Heavy Metal Detox: Spirulina, like other types of blue-green algae, is very good at absorbing heavy metals. It can absorb and then remove these metals from the body, and is regarded highly for its ability to detoxify your body from the inside out.
